The historic centre
Málaga's centre brings together the Alcazaba, the Gibralfaro castle, the Cathedral (designed by Diego de Siloé), the Roman Theatre and the Centre Pompidou. Beaches
La Malagueta beach is the closest to the historic centre. To the west, Huelin beach is 700 m (under a 10-minute walk) from the Encarna Málaga apartment, in the Huelin and La Princesa neighbourhood.
Getting here: airport, AVE and Cercanías
Málaga-Costa del Sol airport is about 9 km from Málaga María Zambrano station, and the two are linked by Cercanías line C-1. The station, opened in 2006, has high-speed trains to Madrid (about 2 hours 25 minutes on direct trains from Madrid-Puerta de Atocha) and two Cercanías lines, C-1 and C-2. The Encarna Málaga apartment is 1 km, about a 15-minute walk, from the station.
Two areas to stay: Martiricos and Huelin
Martiricos is in the north of the city, beside the Guadalmedina river and a 5-minute walk from La Rosaleda stadium, with supermarkets and shops on the doorstep. Huelin and La Princesa are close to the sea, 1 km from the AVE station and with neighbourhood life, shops and restaurants serving Málaga cuisine. Both areas have buses to the centre.
